a slightly harder pastel. The pastel
catches the rough, tiny raised surface,
which helps to create textures. If you
fill it with too much soft pastel,
however, it will be hard to maintain
that texture.
Being a mixed-media paper, it will
allow almost anything to be used on it,
including charcoal, ink, dyes, acrylics,
pastels, oil pastels and watercolour. You
can scratch into the paper with a blade
to remove the surface primer, which
will reveal the white paper underneath.
It is worth taking a little time to get
to know your pastels and papers by
experimenting on a small piece, just
to see how many layers you can
build, how it blends, and how the
different hardness of pastels react
on the paper. LP

clouds have hard and soft edges.
