Today’s pick

James Joyce’s Ulysses
Radio 4 Extra, 4.45pm
Marking 100 years since the
publication of James Joyce’s
modernist masterpiece is
another chance to hear Robin
Brooks’s superlative
dramatisation of the story of
Leopold Bloom’s journey
through Dublin in one day
told over five hours. An
impressive cast is led by
Henry Goodman as Bloom,
with Andrew Scott as Stephen
Dedalus, Niamh Cusack as
Molly Bloom and Stephen Rea
as the Narrator. If you last the

course you will be treated to
perhaps one of the greatest
endings of any book ever
written, Molly’s soliloquy,
lying in bed next to Bloom,
and beautifully rendered
by Cusack. Ben Dowell
