Geoff Norcott: Well Classy
Radio 4, 6.30pm
The right-of-centre Brexit-
supporting comic (who the
BBC sometimes appears
compelled to commission in
the interest of diversity, but
also because he’s excellent)
returns with a rewarding
special in which he
interrogates class in Britain.
Having grown up on a council
estate, he firmly identifies as
working class, even if his diet
suggests that he has become
middle class. He knows how
working-class identity has a

growing kudos and actually
feels sorry for middle-class
people who get routinely
mocked and are “not poor
enough to moan” about their
lot, but “not rich enough to
boast about it”. Ben Dowell
