Sajan and Neera have two children,
aged eleven and five, and Sajan is also a
carer for his elderly parents.
Sajan has set up an educational
resources website called Learn Dojo to
bring in extra cash and is also thinking of
getting an evening job at a supermarket.
“With my income I never want to put all
of my eggs in one basket again,” he said.
Sajan has switched from shopping at
Asda to Aldi and said it was up to 40 per
cent cheaper. He is also working at home
more to save money on fuel. The family
have cancelled streaming subscriptions
and are cutting down on energy use too.
“Heating is effectively banned. We now
put on a jumper if it feels cold,” Sajan said.

ajan Devshi, 38, from Leicestershire,
earns what should be a comfortable
income for his work with the local
police and crime commissioner’s office.
His wife, Neera, works part-time and the
couple have more than £2,500 coming in
every month.
However, after £6,000 of their savings
were depleted during the pandemic,
they have found they cannot deal with
rising costs.
