Doro 6880
Easy touch
HD voice technology to enhance the
audibility of calls, and is compatible with
hearing aids.
It also has an assistance button on the
back. This is similar to an emergency call
button, which can alert a chosen contact
whenever the phone’s owner is in need
of assistance, even if they can’t dial or
speak into the phone.
It’s only designed for calls and texting,
however. There’s no way to read emails
on it, for example, and you can’t install
communication apps, such as WhatsApp.
The upside to this back-to-basics
approach is that the battery lasts for days.
It comes with a charging cradle, which
can be positioned on a bedside table, for
example, so it’s easily charged overnight
and is always close at hand when needed.
The latest smartphones aren’t suitable for
everyone. Doro is one of the few companies
to acknowledge that there’s still a section
of society who don’t want or can’t use
high-tech handsets. So if you’re trying to
make sure a parent or grandparent is
contactable on a mobile network via an
easy-to-use phone, the new Doro 6880 is
a suitable choice.
Its clamshell – or flip – design (with an
external screen showing caller identity)
opens to show a small screen and an
easy-to-see number pad, ensuring that
making calls isn’t rocket science. It uses

Anker PowerConf C200
Picture this
you connect it using the supplied cable.
Windows should recognise the camera
immediately and you can use it without
installing any additional software.
However, the associated software lets you
make a range of tweaks, such as changing
the camera’s field of view and tinkering
with the colour settings (though we
found the defaults to be excellent).
In our tests, the camera performed
well, with impressive colour accuracy
and a clear, crisp image. The autofocus
works well and makes quick adjustments
when necessary.
The one thing that disappointed us is
the webcam’s microphones. Although
they work well in standard mode, they
also have a noise-cancelling feature.
This might be worthwhile in busy and
noisy locations, but we found it made
our speech sound choppy and overly
processed.

If your laptop’s webcam is simply not
good enough for your family or work
video calls, this might well be a suitable
upgrade. It has excellent build quality, a
plug-and-play setup, and handy software
to fine-tune how it works.
The PowerConf C200 can be attached
to the top of your screen using the
supplied stand, or you can use the tripod
mount on the base if you prefer. On top
there’s a switch that controls the privacy
shutter – a bright red plastic lens cover, so
it’s easy to see whether it’s been activated
or not.
Setting things up is easy. It has a USB-C
port on the rear (though you only need a
USB 2.0 or above port on your PC), and
