STEM TALENT STARTS

WITH TEACHERS

SOCIETY UPDATE

The Society for Science is dedicated to supporting the
educators developing the next generation of STEM leaders
and innovators. Through our STEM Research Grants
Program, we are proud to provide grants to middle and
high school teachers engaging their students in scientific
research. Educators receive kits containing equipment to
support research interests across a wide variety of topics,
from computer programming to wildlife observation. Or
they can request up to $5,000 to purchase specialized
materials of their choosing, with priority consideration
given to schools that support students from low-income
communities and demographics underrepresented in
STEM fields.
Since the COVID-19 pandemic began, the Society has
provided more than 9,000 kits, valued at over $560,000,
to educators in all 50 states, Washington, D.C., American
Samoa, Puerto Rico, Mexico, Peru and Uruguay.

When you provide students with
opportunities, you open up a whole
new world for them. The students
might not choose to pursue a STEM
field, but it is important that they
learn the value of perseverance
and cooperation and the hunger
for learning — values that doing
research can teach them.”
