Step 22: Select the cracked glass

layer yet again, then go under

the Filter menu, under Noise,

and choose Add Noise. Set the

Amount to 10%, the Distribu-

tion to Uniform, and turn on

the Monochromatic checkbox.

Click OK.

Step 21: Select the original

subject layer (Layer 2) and press

Command-L (PC: Ctrl-L) to open

Levels. Drag the black (shadows)

slider, beneath the histogram, to

the right a bit, then drag the gray

(midtones) slider to the right as

well, to increase the contrast of

this layer. Click OK when done.

Step 23: With the cracked glass

layer still selected, click on the

Add a Layer Style icon (fx) at the

bottom of the Layers panel, and

choose Gradient Overlay from

the pop-up menu. In the Layer

Style dialog, click on the down-

facing arrow to the right of the

Gradient thumbnail and choose

a simple black to white gradi-

ent. Then use the settings shown

here to give a subtle light glare

effect to the glass layer.
