A
s an artist it is important to respond to an idea
as it comes to light. While working on a series of
sculptures, relating to Ireland’s history, Patrick F.
McGuire was cutting shapes for a large sculpture
and began looking at various pieces of wood that were left.
Handling and observing the scrap pieces, McGuire began
to arrange and rearrange the shapes into many visual com-
positions and formats. The play on shapes suggested to him
water drops, flowing waves, clouds and the sky.
