T
he exhibition As We See It: The Collection
of Gail and Ernst von Metzsch continues
at the New Britain Museum of American Art,
New Britain, Connecticut, through January 8.
It showcases more than 80 of the couple’s 200
paintings collected over 40 years. They have
actively supported and befriended primarily
regional artists. A highlight of the catalog
to the exhibition is their reminiscences of
the artists, their acquiring particular pieces
and their development as proponents of
contemporary realism.
I was told about the exhibition by Janet
Monafo, two of whose giant pastels are in the
exhibition. One of her small
pastels greets me each time
I walk into my living room.
I cherish the Monafo but,
