December 7: Chinese Foreign Affairs Minister Yang Jiechi and German Foreign
Affairs Minister Guido Westerwelle held the 2nd Sino-German Foreign-Minister-
Level Strategic Dialogue in Berlin.

▲ The European Commission decided to cut assistance for 19 emerging
economies, including China, India and Brazil, etc. and give priority to the
assistance of the poorest countries as from 2014.

December 18: Polish President Bronislaw Komorowski kicked off a four-day
State visit to China. Chinese President Hu Jintao held talks with Bronislaw
Komorowski. After the talks, both leaders signed theJoint Declaration between
the People’s Republic of China and the Republic of Poland Concerning the
Establishment of a Strategic Partnershipand attended the signing ceremony for
relevant bilateral cooperation documents.

2012

February 2: German Chancellor Angela Merkel kicked off a two-day official
visit to China. In the morning, Angela Merkel visited the Chinese Academy of
Social Sciences and delivered a speech on the internationalfinancial situation,
policy and Sino-German relations. In the afternoon, Chinese Premier Wen
Jiabao held large, small-scale meetings with German Chancellor Angela Merkel,
and both leaders met with correspondents from home and abroad in the Great
Hall of the People.
February 3: Chinese President Hu Jintao and Chairman of China’s NPC
Standing Committee, Wu Bangguo, separately met with German Chancellor
Angela Merkel. German Chancellor Angela Merkel left for Guangzhou to attend
the Sino-German Economic Forum.
February 7: The Civil Aviation Administration of China gave orders to airlines,
prohibiting Chinese transport airlines from participating in the EU carbon
emission trading system. The official in charge of the Civil Aviation
Administration of China said that the EU included greenhouse gas emission
from internationalflights entering and exiting the EU into the EU emission
trading system through unilateral legislation, which violated theUnited Nations
Framework Convention on Climate Change, relevant principles and regulations
of the International Civil Aviation Organization.
February 14: The 14th China-EU Summit was held in Beijing. Chinese Premier
Wen Jiabao and President of the European Council Herman Van Rompuy, and
the President of the European Commission, JoséManuel Barroso attended the
7th EU-China Business Summit.
February 15: Chinese President Hu Jintao met with the President of the
European Council, Herman Van Rompuy, the President of the European
Commission, JoséManuel Barroso in the Great Hall of the People.
February 18: Chinese Vice-president Xi Jinping visited Ireland.
