A world traveler, Helene DeSerres has been
shooting expansive scenes of mother nature in
different countries, sometimes finding people in
their natural habitat as her subject, transforming
images into great compositions of flow and light,
color, boldness, and ever-evolving form.

DeSerres photography of nature captures the
beauty of flowers on the brink of decay: some
petals may be missing, others are starting to curl.
Her photos breath life into dying flowers by
capturing them as a beautiful record for posterity
before they are lost and time. With a masterful
use of color in her approach to image-making,
she uses soft, delicate shades in some of her
works while adding highlights or directing the
viewer’s attention to a focal point on others.

DeSerres has also taken some rare wildlife
photographs capturing birds feeding their young
in the nest. These images have an immediate
quality to them as if they were made quickly; that

contrasts with the more calm, measured high
definition photographs of flowers. What the floral
photos and the animal pictures have in common
are the fact that they capture an uncertain and
fleeting moment and make it permanent.

Some of DeSerres' photographic works can be
described as Meta artworks. That is because they
are photographs of other artworks. One of her
photos depicts a glass sculpture of a head. The
photo is taken at such an angle that it both shows
the sculpture in its best light. As such, situated at
the intersection of two art forms - photography
and sculpture - the glass head transforms into a
third artwork in its right. When looked at closely,
this photograph is a prime example of DeSerres'
fascination with reflections. Small white buildings
can be seen reflected in the glass of the head,
made wobbly and contorted by its contours. This
is not the only photograph in which DeSerres has
used reflections creatively. Her work “6
Bouteilles” (or, in English '6 Bottles') depicts six
rounded glass bottles in a row. In their round
