Moore's combination of light usage and photographic
composure is essential for the meaningful portrayal of
any given picture, as both of them are central
elements of a professional approach into the realm of
artistic photography. Another prime example of her
work is the way that she handles abstraction
throughout her art. It is a concept derived from the
way that an actual frame is seen by the viewer, thus an
element that incorporates the observer as an integral
part of the final artwork.

Her artworks that lean towards abstraction usually
depict landscapes viewed in a way that obscures their
original reference or makes once again the interesting
use of light. The first case is one that reminds the
viewer that many times abstract art is not something
purely conceptual, but rather something physically
existing but viewed from a different perspective. One
that manages to toy with reality and perception in a
way that is highly theoretical about the reliability of our
senses in order to fully understand the surrounding
environment.
Once someone experiences objects or landscapes that
forge unusual and new patterns that question the
perception above-mentioned, then a fruitful and
exciting dialogue is established between the artist and
the viewer. Such an exchange primarily delivers the
quintessence of contemporary art, which has the
ultimate role of elevating the observer to an active

component of the exhibited artwork instead of simply
being passive towards experiencing art.

The other route to abstraction chosen by Moore, the
handling of light, is also one that poses extreme
interest as an artistic choice. Light is used in an
obstructing instead of revealing way, a feature that is
contrasting to the very nature of light and illumination.
Specifically light is arguably the most sufficient way of
understanding our environment, but the artist chooses
to use it as a force that conceals reality and renders
the viewer blind to it. Light with no object to define
becomes a solitary existence that does not act as a
reference to an existing object. Thus it is underlined
once again that figurative and abstract art make use of
similar expressive tools but significantly differ in the
way that they exploit them to convey their images and
messages. Such realizations are those that drive the
conceptual background of Barbara Moore's work and
render her work contemporary and intriguing in its
theoretical as well as practical approach.

It is important to note that Moore is not an artist that
solely depicts landscapes, as she has a more wide
variety of themes throughout her artistic work. An
integral part of her artistic expression is the depiction
of objects, an idea that is both straightforward and
diverse as it can offer multiple ways of understanding
