F
rench builders
are increasingly
becoming
global in their
collaborations,
which refl ects the varying
market needs and expertise
to service them, so it was
no surprise when Prestige
extended its long-running
relationship with Garroni
Design and chose Trieste.
Italy as the base to build its
fl agship Prestige 750.
“Our aim was to do
something different with
the 750, so the deck-level
cabin was created and it’s
something that gives the
owner privacy in port, while
we wanted a lighter hull so
have used GRP infusion,”
explained Camillo Garroni.
The raked lines of the
74-foot hull and tall, upright
topsides made for an
imposing spectacle on the
Cannes dockside, and that
was saying something when
you consider the fl oating
opulence that surrounded us.
The striking feature of the
Prestige 750 saloon is the
airy and open-plan layout
that leans more towards
apartment in style, rather
than the nautical. The
Prestige maximises sheltered
cockpit space as a dining area
thanks to the aft galley.
The midships lounge is
comfortably laid out with
soft furnishings and bench
seating, tall windows giving
panoramic views. That is with
the exception of forward,
where the deck-level master
cabin requires the main helm
to be elevated.
The interesting feature
chosen for the Prestige 750 is
the positioning of the main
berth forward on deck level.
This allowed a deep-vee to be
incorporated in the GRP hull.
Reached by steps down from
the right of the main helm,
this layout gives privacy to an
owner. Using the full beam
there’s elevated views from
the king island bed through
rectangular portlights.
Access to the guest
accommodation is from the
same corridor as the owner’s.
The three cabins comprise
two twin singles and the VIP
double aft. In addition is
a crew cabin as part of the
engineroom.
Climbing the steps
brings you to the large
fl ybridge where a hardtop
bimini shades the dinette
and wetbar. This helm
was comfortable and the
instrument layout echoes
that below.
Power of choice for the
Prestige 750 were upgraded
1200hp MAN V8 shaftdrives
- and I found I needed all of
this horsepower.
This 74-footer weighing
48t fully loaded is not a
boat to be handled by the
inexperienced.
Helping, though, is
the Xenta joystick which
combines the bowthruster,
gears and propellers, and
turns them into a single
manoeuvring system.
The Prestige 750 glided
over calm waters as the revs
rose to a max 2380rpm, which
equated to 27.4kts and 430lt
combined consumption,
before easing back to a fast
cruise of 22kts at 2000rpm
and fuel-burn of 290lt. This
for a range of 334nm.
There was nothing
unconvincing about the
Prestige 750, a comfortable
cruising motoryacht with
a modern and innovative
layout, stylishly packaged in a
seaworthy hull.
