CURRENTS ON BOARD MJM 35z

26 YACHTING JANUARY 2018

The optional 350 hp outboards should add about 4 knots to the boat’s top-end.

ob johnstone, the CEO of
MJM Yachts, is known for build-
ing quality boats with high-tech
construction techniques. Doug
Zurn, a yacht designer from Maine, is
known for combining sophistication and
beauty into a classic aesthetic. So when
this duo teamed up for the MJM 35z, sea-
soned yachtsmen knew something special
would come off the drafting table. ¶ When
I initially laid eyes on the MJM 35z in

Annapolis, Maryland, a gasp escaped my
lips. This is the fi rst MJM model of this
size to have twin 300 hp Mercury Verado
outboards. While some traditionalists

EYE CANDY
Standing aboard the MJM 35z,
you’d never know she’s so unorthodox
for a Downeast-style boat,
with outboards abaft her transom.
Inside, fi ddle rails sit atop the
countertops, and teak and holly line
the cabin sole. The hull sides
inside the cabin are perhaps the most
impactful touch of classic décor,
fi nished with cherry battens.

ANGLING AMENITIES
MJM off ers optional fi shing features
on the 35z, including a 35-gallon
livewell, six cap-rail rod holders, 18-
foot Rupp outriggers and twin
33-inch, insulated in-deck fi sh boxes.
