N

ew Zealand interior design company Kit Carlier Design is
part of a high-profile trio responsible for an innovative,
high-speed cruiser soon-to-be launched in Australia.
The 57-foot vessel – featuring carbon construction and
electric propulsion – was designed by the legendary German (Mani)
Frers and built by Australia’s McConaghy Boats.
“Her design,” says Kit Carlier, “was guided by the clients’ principle
that a cruising yacht shouldn’t have to compromise on performance.
Every aspect of the interior design was carefully considered to ensure
weight was kept to an absolute minimum. If we couldn’t find off-the-
shelf solutions, we commissioned bespoke products to fit the brief.”
The goal was to allow the cruiser to perform at its best, while still
retaining the comforts of a super yacht, but at a fraction of the size.
An open-plan layout creates a sense of spaciousness. The open
plan saloon can easily be converted into an additional cabin with an
ensuite when guests are aboard. This flexibility enables the owners
themselves to change the configuration of the interior as desired.
To minimise environmental impact, this cruiser accommodates
two electric sail-drives with hydro-regeneration capacity, solar panels
on the coach roof, and a waste treatment system.

T

he Royal New Zealand Yacht Squadron will host
the Red Bull Foiling Generation 2018 New Zealand
regatta – scheduled for the 22nd - 25th February.
Red Bull Foiling Generation gives talented
young sailors aged 16 – 20 the opportunity to advance their
careers through elite, hydrofoil racing. The seven-stop series
serves as a great training foundation for the Red Bull Youth
America’s Cup, which caters to competitors aged 19-25.
In 2016 the RNZYS hosted New Zealand’s first Red Bull
Foiling Generation, and the first stop of the 2016 World
Series. Olivia Mackay and Micah Wilkinson took out the New
Zealand competition, eventually going on to take the overall
2016 Foiling World Championship in Newport, USA.
