SO WHAT’S HAPPENING TO LION?
Hauled out in May 2017, she was transported to
Yachting Developments in Hobsonville where the long
list of tasks began.
She has been completely stripped inside and out,
ready for a new keel, rudder, mast, engine, plumbing,
electronics, a slightly revised interior to increase bunk
accomodation by two – and of course a repaint.
Care is being taken to keep as much as possible
of the new equipment in the original position. The
yacht’s designer Ron Holland, now in his seventies,
has been consulted on the key changes, which
include a new keel and mast.

A new lighter and
shorter carbon mast
has been sourced
from an America’s
Cup syndicate
