27th Monaco Yacht Show

Few but good ones or rather, excellent ones

the Italian shipyards with 19 yards and almost as many compa-
nies producing accessories, (Prize buyers were from Russia and
the USA) were the only ones of the yachting sector that could
declare themselves as having emerged from the financial crisis
which for others is continuing still.
But let’s take a panoramic view of some of the models that were
exhibited for the first time in the course of this latest edition of
the MYS.
So as to proceed in alphabetical order, we’ll begin with a yacht
which certainly cannot qualify as “super” but thanks to its capac-
ity to transform into another identity, was justifiably placed in the
Tender & Toys sector. We’re talking about the Absolute 40 STL,
which the Italian yard presented for the first time at the MYS. It’s

a comfortable fast open, externally protective but with separate
areas below deck which make it more versatile in terms of use,
thereby well suited as support vessel for larger ones.
Azimut’s flag ship, Grande 35 Metri considered as being the most
exclusive of the line among the six exhibited, designed by Ste-
fano Righini is an elegant and appealing wide body superyacht.
The internal helm controls station is situated on an “interme-
diate” deck built with carbon fibres as all the superstructure, in
order to save weight and to keep the centre of gravity as low

section specially dedicated to Tenders & Toys and dedicated to
collateral “divertissements” which are becoming more and more
popular on board of large superyachts. The area which was ded-
icated to this segment along Quai Antoine 1st, which is decided-
ly the most appropriate, will probably be enlarged as of the next
edition, to meet growing demands.
Let’s face it, this latest 27th edition of the MYS was much ap-
preciated by all. A fair translation of this from the insiders’ view
point is that there was a lively atmosphere, plenty of contracts,
signed preliminaries and letter of intent. A certified coherence
that well reflects official figures which show an 11% increase
in sales on 2016, with a total value of 23 billion Euro: a sum
to which Italian shipyards contributed handsomely having sold
about half of the entire order book. The lion’s share thus went to

Absolute - 40 STL

Azimut - Grande 35
