Superyacht International — January 2018

(vip2019) #1

A wonderful yacht, not one where the bow is praised, the foyer, the owner’s suite,
but rather the one where the overall aspect is so strikingly beautiful it takes away

is nothing else than the transposition of an ancient recurring thought: expressed by
Lucio Anneo Seneca who, in celebrating feminine grace was probably referring to
Pompea Paolina his wife. And yet the sense of this sentence expresses perfectly our

Cloud 9, CRN’s latest work. In reality, the word which best expresses the overall
sense is ‘harmony’, this because the idea which comes to mind is that of a perfect al-
chemy between the minds that have crafted the project’s various components. This
means the in house engineering team, Zuccon International Project, Winch Design
and New Construction which is Burgess Agency’s new construction division acting
as project manager representing the owner. A couple of doubts arise for this name,
that among the diverse interpretations that can be given about the meaning of it
given by the owner for his ship, where the most suited is the most mystical: in fact
Cloud 9 is one of the fundamental phases made along the path to enlightenment. It
corresponds to ‘bliss’ perhaps. Then let’s proceed a little longer with this concept of
“togetherness”, because the fundamental feature according to us of this 74 metre is
exactly based on the continuity between outside and inside, between the exterior
and the interiors. In other words there is never, meaning never a moment you feel
the stillness often experienced when crossing from one corridor to another in
hotels and along other ships, as you move along the yacht’s decks or walk from one
spot to another even inside. And more so when the interiors are richly, lavishly dec-
orated, the sea seems further away. Probably in the eyes of visiting guests rooted in
their residential vision of things, it is “safer” for it to be just so. But no, not on Cloud
9 it was built by one – for one for whom psychological and visual contact with water

touring the stern area along the main deck managed to deliver a sharp sense of con-
tinuity with exterior surroundings that will make the three or more metres which
divide the deck to the water’s edge unperceivable. And not to mention the beach
club which this contact makes it so very real, physical thanks to the lower deck’s
streamlined extension which tapers off down to sea level just off the water when
the transom opens out. It’s worth reminding this ingenuous invention is CRN’s. The

are two other accesses to the sea other than the stern beach club. There are two
side openings as well which are used to launch and recover tenders and water toys
and two hydraulically operated balconies which can double as massage parlour/
hairdresser on one side the one along the main deck and the other which is situated
on the lower deck which allows guests to embark and leave walking past an elegant
reception area. Indeed it is easy to visualize little groups of guests or pairs talk away
while comfortably seated in welcoming lounges starting with the exterior ones al-
