exposed to diverse temperatures and to com-
pare performance. The first important result
observed by the testing party from the begin-
ning while the prototypes were being complet-
ed was that Boero fillers “were easy to apply
and smooth” when compared to other prod-
ucts on the market. But what’s more to the
point is that at the end of all the tests no de-
fects were found in the finish, no sign of de-
lamination or cracks of any kind.
In a nutshell the following products were exam-
ined closely:
Delta 3000 / Epolight Win / Epomar / Delta
UC HB / Epoply / Challenger Pro - Delta 3000
/ Epoyacht / Epomar / Delta UC HB / Epoply /
Challenger Pro.
Several mock-ups were specially prepared for the tests. The thorough-
ness of the tests was amply demonstrated not only by the application of
variable thicknesses but also by the maximum required thickness which
was relatively high, and more so by the geometry of the surfaces them-
selves- the shapes of some - featured cutting curves. The surfaces to
be treated were sanded before the primers were applied according to
SA2.5 standard. Then they were duly cleaned and degreased. The prim-
ers were applied at pre-set temperature and humidity levels, at 20° C
and about 40% humidity. The product was sprayed on with a cup shaped

ucts’ technical sheets. Four 5mm layers were applied in succession to
reach the maximum thickness required. In actual fact to be honest this
is only part of the preliminaries because the real work consisted in test-
ing yield by simulating several working conditions a yacht may undergo.
From the toughest (cold) to the hottest with temperature excursions
ranging between -30°C to +80°C. Other trials were carried out as well
by simulating day to night time temperatures, and then return to daytime
hotter temperatures repeatedly. Subsequent testing simulated cruising in
extremely cold waters -30°C for three consecutive days, alternated by
brief defrosting every 24 hours. Finally temperatures were raised with
infrareds to 80°C. All things considered this was a very severe set of tests
performed which exceeds, by far the effective use of a superyacht during
its whole life cycle. One of the more striking results is that the temper-
atures the single prototypes were exposed to did not vary excessively
neither between their front sides and back ones. But more so that at the
