40 MAXIMUMPC DECEMBER 2003

Waiting for ATA hard drives to
make the leap from 7200rpm to
10,000rpm spindle speeds was a
lot like watching a glacier advance,
except not quite as action-packed.
And then came the Raptor. Not only does
Western Digital’s 360GD represent the dawning
of a new generation of hard drive technology, it also
kicks the gazpacho out of every other ATA drive on the
market. Whether we’re talking seek times, reads, writes,
IOs, IOUs, you name it, the Raptor attacks 7200rpm
drives like its Jurassic forbearers. Even better, Western
Digital should have already released a 74GB version by
the time you read this. Chomp! $190, http://www.wdc.com,
reviewed May 2003

If size matters that much: If you simply must have

just one drive for all your data, the Raptor’s paltry 36GB
capacity won’t cut it, so we recommend Western Digital’s
fast and roomy 250GB 2500JB for people who need
more space.

Yadda, yadda, yadda. Yadda, yadda, yadda.
Yadda, yadda, yadda. (Throat clearing.) Yadda,
yadda, yadda.
Get the picture?! Hear what we’re saying?!
Do you understand the words that are coming
out of our mouths?! The F520’s dominance in
the desktop display space has continued for so
damn long, we just can’t bring ourselves to detail
in print the CRT’s amazing specs and features
anymore, nor can we even bring ourselves to
describe all the accolades we’ve given it in the
past. If you’re a regular reader of Maximum PC , you
already know the whole story. If you’re new to our
magazine, just trust us: This CRT is hands-down the best.
(Yes, it’s even better than Sony’s FW9000, which offers more
screen real estate but less exacting pixel detail.) Someone
better tell the display industry to engineer a better CRT, or... or...
we might just 86 our entire Gear of the Year list next time around!
