With the current Defender retired, historically signifi cant Land
Rovers are coming out of the woodwork. Owners appear to be
playing the speculation game; claimed as the fi rst ever heavy oil
Land Rover, an owner was asking £200,000 for a 1957 88-inch
pick up. In need of complete restoration, the Land Rover was
missing its original engine – though another unit of similar vintage
(perched on the pick-up bed) was included with the asking price.
