FORD FAVOURITES
When it comes to iconic Fords of the 1960s, the Anglia 105E
and Cortina MkI are among the most sought-after nowadays. As
revered for their style as for their simple engineering and the
ease with which they can be modifi ed, values have soared over
the last few years, with excellent survivors commanding strong
money. In turn, this has obviously pushed up what’s being paid for
restoration projects.
Two recent examples went under the virtual hammer online, the
fi rst being a 1963 Anglia Deluxe that had been dry stored for the
last thirty years and presumably not started in all that time. The
state of the engine wasn’t known, the bodywork was described as
having ‘a bit of rust here and there’ and the wheels were seized.
It still bore its original pre-suffi x registration number, but this
obviously can’t be legally transferred to another vehicle without a
current MoT. In the end, the Anglia attracted some eager bidders
and eventually sold for £1800.
It was a similar story with the 1966 Cortina MkI four-door that
also sold online, a car that had been stored in a garage for the
last two decades. Its seller explained that the bodywork was rusty
and that the car needed full restoration and would obviously need
trailering away. The end result was a top bid of £1430 – which
hopefully means it’s gone to a genuine enthusiast who will bring it
back to its former glory.
The days when an Anglia or early Cortina needing work could
be picked up for the same price as a decent night out are, it
seems, long gone...
Top right: The Cortina MkI attracted a top bid of £1430 but is in need of major work.
Right: Off the road for twenty years, the Cortina was showing signs of obvious neglect.
