‘This project was inspired by late 16th and early 17th century Dutch vanitas
still life paintings by Nicolaes Gillis and Floris van Dijck. I composed the
photographs as an arrangement of interrelated objects of different tones,
shapes and textures – and also, as allegories on the vanity of life and the
transience of earthly pursuits. In keeping with the style of Dutch Golden Age
painting, natural window light was used with everything in focus.’
