ome say that Tony Blair only did one good thing, but I maintain he did at least one good other.
Now I’ve got nothing against the next man smoking a cigarette on his own, after all we are
fortunate to live in a democracy – but I can remember, as the sun was going down, quietly sitting
one evening in a country pub, eating my meal at a long table as there was no other available...
when, (you’ve guessed) two couples sat down opposite and alongside and without a word immediately
all four struck-up... whilst I was eating
Muttering dark thoughts under my breath - I have never
seen a smoker smoking and eating simultaneously, have you?
...so it didn’t seem reasonable for them to smoke whilst I was
finishing my meal. Besides which I had showered and dressed in
fresh clothes which now smelt like...
...but of course, that was the way things had always been
done in public houses and eating places since Sir Walter Raleigh
