keelboat was launched in
northern Scotland in
February from the new
partnership of Tim Loftus
and Dan Johnson. Built in
double-diagonal utile
veneers, cold-moulded with
epoxy for strength, she has
proved quick and
well-mannered afl oat. The
Flying Ten was designed in- These days they are

POLLY
Designed and built by David Moss, LOD 31ft (9.4m), rig gaff cutter
She’s the biggest-ever boat from David Moss, who started Polly fi ve years ago,
and she’s as traditional as you like, from the gaff cutter rig to the carvel planking
on steamed oak timbers, solid teak deck caulked and payed in pitch, Oregon
pine mast and hand-spliced galvanised wire standing rigging set up on
deadeyes.WALBERSWICK FERRY

There has been a ferry service in Southwold Harbour for
about 800 years and the latest operator, Dani Church, is the
fi fth generation of her family to row people across the River
Blyth. Her new larch on oak rower, Boy Charlie (after her son)
is a replica of its predecessor, Halcyon Days.J CAIRD

In 2013, a replica James Caird, Alexandra Shackleton,
retraced Shackleton’s terrible 1916 Antarctic small-boat
voyage. This later replica, also built by IBTC Lowestoft, is
