CLASSIC BOAT FEBRUARY 2018^83

CARAMBA’s supreme good looks are not accidental – her sheer
line, beautifully balanced proportions and purposeful profile are
all in immaculate good taste. We first met her as a family yacht
in Corfu, professionally skippered and run by two people. Her
current owner by contrast looks after the boat by himself - and
often cruises her alone. With her wide and protected bulwarks,
expansive aft deck, her little ship ambience with commanding
bridge and intimate cabin layout; she is living testament to her
old school designer Fred Parker’s skill. They don’t make them
like this anymore.

Built in 1952 at the yard of James Silver and sons and possibly
the last surviving “Bain 72”. She long proved herself as an
exceptional sea-boat with her trusty Gardner diesel engines
and Vosper Maxi Fin stabilizers. Acquired by her current owner
as a project she was given a keel up restoration at the yard of
Stirling and Son in Plymouth during 2015-16. Fully restored
and with an interior furnished and decorated in immaculate
taste - LIFE AQUATIC is now a superior boat both structurally
and cosmetically to the one Silvers launched in 1952 and with
3 double cabins; a single and crew accommodation she is an
incredibly exciting and unique option in turn key condition.

Ashley Butler’s designs are inspired by the ergonomics, form and
function of the historic working craft of the British Isles. Even on
the most basic consideration of size, this hull form has already
proven ideal for family cruising – perhaps defining the term
Modern Classic with her carvel planking, long keel and effortless
charm. BONAVENTURE was commissioned by a family who
knew what they wanted and the boat’s interior is comfortably
fitted out to optimise space below – this vessel is now seriously
for sale. Please bring offers.

45 ft Cockwells Cutter 2007

POLLY AGATHA with her long keel, carvel construction and
well proportioned gaff rig give the charm and presence of a fast
Edwardian cutter. Her owner was adamant not only for a thing of
beauty but also a yacht capable of sailing anywhere - all the time
keeping his family safe and comfortable. Her interior has all the
detail and finish befitting a vintage yacht; an owner’s cabin with
a large double and en suite and a forward cabin also en suite -
unheard of on a classic yacht of this size! POLLY AGATHA has
totally succeeded as if from the turn of the last century yet she
has looked after her owners impeccably cruising British waters
in all conditions.

Johan Anker was considered an artist in yacht design and was
greatly concerned with the beauty of lines - BOJAR doesn’t
disappoint. A boat of such effortless beauty, she genuinely
lifts the human spirit and perhaps defines the term “classic
yacht.” With her keel weight and displacement balanced at
approximately 50 / 50 she is an extremely effective sailing boat.
Winner of a ‘Je ne sais quois’ at the Panerai Regatta at Cowes;
third in class in the Round the Island race as well as impressive
results at the RYS Bicentenary Regatta and most recent Cowes
Panerai event in 2017. BOJAR can be raced with family and
friends or easily sailed by just two people.

INISMARA is one of the 23 yachts in her class built between 1951
and 1968, displaying her winning ways immediately with 17 wins
from 25 starts in her first season. Since then she has benefited
from very few owners and impressive maintenance. Original and
in apparently fine condition therefore, this design is incredibly
nimble under sail just as James McGruer and the Rule intended.
In the 1998 Scottish Series INISMARA won the class overall and
won her class at West Highland Week two years running and the
overall series trophy. Of late she has been enjoyed as a cruiser
and day sailer for which she is perfectly well suited.
