CLASSIC BOAT FEBRUARY 2018 87
CRAFTSMANSHIP
Anthony Wheaton, who featured in Tell Tales last month for his role in founding
a new traditional maritime centre in the county of Durham, recently unearthed
the International 14 Grebe of Hampton (K4). Built in 1921, the boat came to light
under a fallen tree in Richmond, on the limit of the tidal Thames in the leafy
west London suburbs. He has taken the boat to the London Corinthian Sailing
Club in Hammersmith nearby, where she will remain until Anthony starts a
restoration to bring her back to her mid-century guise, when she was given a
gunter rig and foredeck to cruise the Thames and canals, something she did for
many years. Anthony is also the owner of the 1904 gaff er Aeolus.
