Puneet Kaushik’s work depicts the aesthetic
and material cracks underlying the visible
reality of urban life. They are abstract collages
of kaleidoscopic materials and techniques....
wire mesh, sewing, embroidery, tufting, line
drawings and organic dyes that bring to the
surface histories of tension that exist just beneath
the ordinariness of everyday life. This work is
an attempt towards creating something that
cusps tradition and antiquity with the modern
and contemporary. ‘For the past 15 years, I have
always conceived my work with its shadows.
Light is an important part of it. The cast shadows
could sometimes give an added dimension to the
work. It is rare that a work would change if you
are sure of what you want or what you want to
achieve in and out of the work. Having said that,
there are sometimes technical issues or external
elements that could add to the work,’ he says.

‘Every work is like a baby
that you live with, grow
with and exchange energies
with. We all change a bit
and grow with each work
that we create. You just live
it, breathe it, smell it, eat
it, hear it...My best thought
and concepts come to me at
night or while I am asleep.’
