THE ‘RECORDED

RETOUCH’ TRICK

If sensor marks plague a whole

batch of photos, there’s no

need to freak out – a little-

known Action trick can help

01

ALLOW TOOL
RECORDING
Open any image in the set,
then go to Window>Actions.
Click the lyout menu and
choose Allow Tool Recording.
Next, click the Create New
Action button in the panel,
give the action a name
and click Record. Now any
move you make with a tool,
including its position in the
image, will be recorded.

02

REMOVE MARKS
While you’re recording,
press Cmd/Ctrl+J to duplicate
the background layer then
grab the Spot Healing Brush
tool from the Tools Panel.
Paint over any sensor marks
to remove them, zooming
in and out as you go. (To
speed things up, why not try
the ‘Bird’s Eye View’ trick in
the Quick Tips section that
follows this step-by-step?)

03

RUN THE ACTION
Are you done
retouching the image? You
never want to do that again,
right? Click the Stop button
in the Actions panel, then
open another image in the
same set. If it’s a diferent
orientation, rotate it to
match the irst image, then
run the action, sit back and
enjoy the show. Then go and
clean your camera sensor!
