THE ‘TWISTY EXTRUSION’ TRICK


Bend, twist and taper 3D extrusions to add variety to letters


01 


EXTRUDE SOME TYPE
Use the Type tool to
type a few letters, then go
to 3D>New 3D Extrusion
From Selected Layer. In the
3D Panel, highlight the shape
(it’ll be named after the
layer). Go to the Properties
Panel, set Extrusion to max,
then go to 3D>Split Extrusion
so each letter can be edited.

TWIRL AND TAPER
Click on any letter you
like with the Move tool to
select the 3D shape, then go
to the Properties Panel and
click the second tab, Deform.
Play with the Twirl, taper,
bend and shear sliders to
alter the extrusion. Continue
twisting all the letters using
the same sliders.

ADD NEW MATERIALS
Now click on each
shape’s Front Inlation
Material and Extrusion
Material ield in the 3D Panel
and add material presets
using the Properties Panel.

presets, as well as Image
Based Lights and 3D sets,
using 3D>Get More Content.
