Beyond Light

A

photo exhibition aptly titled

‘Beyond Light’ was on show

at The Jehangir Terrace

Art Gallery in Mumbai from 28th

October - 3rd November 2015.The

exhibition showcased the work

of Shamim Akhtar, who is a civil

servant by profession. Shamim is a

wanderer, biker, author, �ilm-maker,

blogger, mystique and of course, a

photographer. This was his 10th

solo exhibition.

The display was unique; all the

photographs (40 of them) were in

black & white – not the usual

black & white, but Infra-red!

Twenty images depicted beautiful

Ladakh while the other twenty

showed Delhi (Dilli) in all its

glory. Each image of 24x36” was

mounted in a wooden 36x48”

frame. All the images were printed

on archival German canvas with

Epson varnish.

Vadehra Art Gallery

Vadehra Art Gallery brought together a

group of nine artists with their unique

take on photography in an exhibition,

‘Off the record: Meditations on the

Photographic Image’ curated by Vidya

Sivadas. Held in New Delhi, this show

was also an of�icial collateral of the Delhi

Photo Festival. The exhibition presented

images that showed the connection

between photography, painting and

other forms of art. The artists whose

works were on display were Atul Bhalla,

Anju Dodiya, M F Husain, Showkat

Kathjoo, Kishen Khann, Juul Kraijer,

Susanta Mandal, Babu Eshwar Prasad

and Charmi Gada Shah. Atul Bhalla paid

homage to the water bodies in Delhi,

which are dry now, through his work.

His pictures brought out absence, loss

and invisibility.

Dutch artist Juul Kraijer who turned

to photography after his long tryst

with drawing, brought out the worldly

qualities of Renaissance portraiture

while employing surrealism techniques.

for the distinction.
