Depending on the type of rock you photograph, you will end up
with many different textures usable for many different projects.
All of these types of rock can be found at a garden centre.

TYPES OF ROCK
DISCOVER WHAT ROCKS PRODUCE WHICH TYPES OF TEXTURES

Brick: While not technically a naturally
occurring rock, is a very useful texture to
have on hand. It can be used for a variety of
things including backgrounds and patterns

River rocks: Pebbles and river rocks
have lots of variations. Photograph
them in clumps or groups.

enhance their colours and features

Garden rocks: The best rocks for overall, even
texture are just large, gritty, garden rocks. The
texture is even throughout the surface so it
photographs well. They’re also very easy to find

Slate: Flat, slate rock is pretty standard
