HOW TO DO ROCK RUBBING

OBTAIN ROCK TEXTURE THROUGH RUBBINGS

RUB IT

Place the newsprint over the rock. Hold it in

place while you rub with the side of the crayon to

transfer the texture onto the paper. Use the flat side of

the crayon for maximum coverage.

SCAN THE TEXTURE

Take the paper with your texture and scan

it. Newsprint and sugar paper are not naturally

white so you’ll need to adjust it by desaturating and

adjusting the Levels so you have a usable image.

COLLECT MATERIALS

For this project you will need a couple of

easy to find materials: a black crayon, some

unbleached newsprint or sugar paper, and a

variety of textured rocks. Flatter rocks are easy to

get texture from.
