DONE
I think my major jewelry
accomplishments include my
work with vintage and repurposed
materials (such as vintage china)
and my work with soft soldering. I
like to look at materials in new ways
and try to develop new techniques
and inspire others to do the same.
I am also the author of two jewelry
instruction books, BoHo Chic Jewelry
and Soldered Alchemy, available at
http://www.shop.jewelrymakingdaily.com.

DOER’S PROFILE
lapidary journal
Jewelry artist
Chic Jewelry teaches the reader
to incorporate many vintage
and upcycled items into unique
jewelry. I’m always trying to show
other jewelry artists that you can
do new and diff erent things with
old materials, and that people
should experiment and try new
things. More of my work can
be seen at http://www.etsy.com/shop/
dishfunctionldesigns.
FIRST PIECE
I don’t remember what the fi rst
piece I made was. I’ve created so
many pieces of jewelry over the
years, and I gave away almost all of
my earliest work, so I really couldn’t
tell you where it is now!
HEROES
I fi nd that I am more inspired
by styles or movements than by
particular people. I enjoy anything
inspired by nature. I also have
always had a love for Art Nouveau
motifs.
DESIGN SOURCES
Nature and everyday life. I like the
shapes of things — whether it be a
leaf, tree, a shadow. I’m also very
inspired by music.
FAVORITE PART OF DOING
I enjoy experimenting with new
materials and developing new
techniques — that aha moment
when I discover something new.
ON BENCH NOW
I’m currently continuing to take the
techniques I developed in Soldered
Alchemy to another level, adding new
materials and experimenting with
wire and solder. I am also creating
new designs with salvaged and
repurposed materials. Right now, I
have a lot of used guitar strings and
a large damaged Zildjian cymbal
on my workbench! Those will be
transformed into jewelry.
LATEST VENTURE
I recently fi lmed two new jewelry
instruction videos — “Make
Vintage and Upcycled Jewelry:
Dishfunctional Plate Necklace” and
“Soldered Alchemy: Open Heart
Pendant Using Soft Solder and
Wire Techniques” – for Interweave.
The videos teach you to make
pieces based on projects found in
my jewelry instruction books. Both
are available now at http://www.shop.
