Artists Back to Basics - Issue 6 Volume 3 2016

(Kiana) #1
while she works away at her
tabletop easel, with her pots of
acrylic paint, by while Catherine
prefers to stand at the easel to
work. Both ways are fine, it’s just
your personal preference. Acrylic
paint was used by most of the
group; it’s a very flexible medium
and allows the artist to continually
rework and develop their painting,
especially when used undiluted
straight from the tube or bottle.

(Artists Chatting) a
great learning tool
Unlike me, most in our group tend
to spend much of the day inside
working with experienced artist Lyn
Lee helping with their art, and while
they all looked very busy whenever
I looked around the door, I guess
there’s also plenty of chatting and
evaluation of everyone’s approach
to their art that goes on, and it’s
this interaction that is such a
valuable learning tool and why
art trips like this are such a great
way to move on with our art.

The rest of the group - Kathy
Cowherd, Tricia Woods, Carol
Keppler, Elizabeth Walton, Ann Scott
Hilde Jones, Robert Fimmel, Cletus
Fimmel, Coral Googh, Jenny
Demarte, Hania Roe, Lyn Lee.
Many of the above belong
to an art group run by Lyn.
If anyone would like to join
the group at New Norcia in
2016, by all means, contact
me at my email address.
During October, I would have been
artist in residence in Launceston,
Tasmania and my Teacher’s Pet
column will be centred on that trip
a nd my experiences there. ■
