Skills needed for the job:You need to
be a real Sherlock Holmes and have
the perseveranceto find that pet.

Favourite part of the job:Bringing a miss-
ing pet home to its family. One of my
favourite cases was a cat, which had
somehow escaped from its cage while
being loaded on to an aeroplane. I
worked out where he had gone by
speaking to people who had seen him,
and then I used dogs to track him.
The reunion got a lot of publicity.

Least favourite part of the job:Bringing
bad news. I’ve learned that animals
are a big part of some people’s lives,
so much so that they are like part of
the family.

Job:I’m Europe’s only certifiedpet

forensics, creating a behaviour profile
for the missing animal, using satellite
area surveysas well as special search
management techniques.

Home and family:My partner is Linda
Priedniece, who is from Riga, Latvia.
I also have a seven-year-old son, Ben
Jeremy. We live in Dublin, Ireland.

Training for the job:I became a certified
missing animal responsetechnician
after finishing a two-year course in
Fresno, California. The course is ac-
creditedby the US Federal Emergency
Management Agency (FEMA). There
are 213 pet detectives worldwide, but
most are in the US and Canada.

Years of experience:I have been a pet
detective for eight years. I’ve found

Ace Ventura: Robert Kenny has helped find 4,500 pets

PEOPLE MY WORKING LIFE

Robert Kenny: Pet detective

over 4,500 missing and stolen pets,
including cats, dogs, birds and exot-
ic reptiles. I am now writing my first
book, The Life and Times of Ace
Ventura, about my experiences.
“Ace” is my nickname.

How I get work:Mostly through pub-
licity. I have appeared on TV shows,
including children’s programmes in
the US and in Europe, and on radio.
My work has also been written about
in magazines and newspapers.

Time spent working:About 75 hours a
week, on average, and I travel all over
the world. I do a lot of work in Ger-
many and have a flat in Düsseldorf.

Why I chose this job:I used to work in
finance but my heart was more with
animals. I not only find missing ani-
mals, but years ago, I also set up
Leinster Animal Rescuein Dublin to
help pets that are less lucky than the
17 animals I have. It has found homes
for over 2,000 animals since then.
