place to meet art leaders from across the continent. We deliberately decided to include Africa with
the Middle East and South Asia as the focus for Art Dubai Modern (solo and two-person shows
by masters) so that audiences can understand the links between artists throughout the twentieth
century and the South-South relationships that existed and still exist today. Our growing role
as an international meeting point, particularly vis-à-vis Africa, is of crucial importance to Art
Dubai, but we’re taking things step-by-step – so we grow in tandem with cities such as Lagos,
Dakar, Accra, Nairobi and Addis, both in terms of contemporary and modern art.Dr. Zoltán Somhegyi is a Hungarian art historian, holding a Ph.D. in aesthetics. Based
in the United Arab Emirates and teaching at the University of Sharjah, he is the Middle
