My family has always been supportive of my
work, telling me which photos caught their eye and
why, helping me frame, and taking me to places to
take photos of animals or old sheds.
What I am shooting determines the techniques I
use. Most of my bird photos are spontaneous. I go
out for a bushwalk hoping to see some interesting
birds, but if I don’t, it’s not the end of the world. I
have enjoyed the walk and I will have always take
photos of something else, like bees or lowers.
If I’m shooting landscapes, they are a little more
planned, especially if I am getting up to take photos
of the sunrise, or going somewhere diferent for
a sunset. Timing is the key, especially knowing
sunrise, sunset and moon rising times to capture
great photographs.
Diferent subjects require diferent equipment.
For wildlife and bird photography, I use my 55-
200mm lens so I can spy a bird but don’t have to
get too close and risk scaring it away. In saying
