cerulean. Ultramarine was then applied over the
cerulean to provide a contrast and give a small
series of diferent blues that create the impression
of a brighter colour. No painting is ever as luminous
as the colours in nature even though we can come
very close.
Recently I added a brief YouTube demonstration
of these bird painting techniques applied to a blue
wren at the address youtube.com/user/HelenFitz12.
Arches hot pressed paper 300 gsm was the
paper used for this painting. However because of
the very wet washes and the white background
the painting buckled. It required stretching after
completion to latten it ready for framing. Arches
paper stretches without any problems and I prefer it
over most other papers that are readily available in
Australia.
