joined the 17th annual SeaKeepers
Founders dinner on November 2 during
the Fort Lauderdale International Boat
Show. The venue was a waterfront home, offered by hosts
Tom and Katia Bates, that provided a sparkling backdrop
for the festivities. Two hundred guests attended the event
to hear news of SeaKeepers’ latest activities, to socialize
and to raise money for conservation initiatives.
The honorary chair for Founders 2017 was Michael
Saylor of Fleet Miami. Former SeaKeepers Award recipi-
ents were also on hand, including 2016 recipient Alexander
W. Dreyfoos and 2015 winner Fabien Cousteau.
Other guests included Capt. Sandra Yawn from
Bravo’s “Below Deck Mediterranean” TV series and
Capt. Paul Watson, founder of the Sea Shepherd
Conservation Society. Yawn took the podium to com-
mend the 2016-17 Discovery fl eet and speak about her
experiences working with SeaKeepers.
The yachts that participated in the 2016-17
Discovery program were: Advisors Alliance, Angari,
Asean Lady, Exuma, Harle, Katharine, Lady Olivia,
LoJo, Luzerne, Paraffi n, Sam, Shredder, The Admiral,
Timely Sale and World Odyssey.
The International SeaKeepers Society is a non-
profi t organization focusing on the health of the world’s
oceans and climate. Yachts International is a SeaKeepers
media partner.

For the second time in as many years, Yachts International took home a
top trophy in the prestigious Folio: Awards competition. The awards rec-
ognize editorial excellence across a broad spectrum of magazine print and
digital categories. Yachts International had four fi nalists in three categories:
single article, feature design and cover of the year. The winning entry was
“Secret Passion,” which ran in the magazine’s September/October 2016
issue. The story was about renowned theater and television set designer
Eugene Lee, who owns and restores wooden boats. The piece was written
by contributor Elaine Lembo with photography by Billy Black.
