T

he niche centre
console “clan”
are dedicated
to anglers like
myself, who like
to believe their boats are
family-friendly. This may
be true – to a degree – but
when it comes to asking the
family the same question,
they would most certainly
disagree – and I speak from
experience.
So is it possible to create
the perfect centre console
that not only serves as
an offshore gamefishing
weapon, but also as an
entertaining boat that family
and friends can enjoy?Well,
I’ll leave the answer up to
you as the latest Grady-White
Canyon 376 centre console
can certainly speak for itself.
This centre console is a
mammoth 11.15m in length
with 4.01m beam, and being
a Grady-White, the Canyon
376 is unquestionably a
show stopper with stand-out
designer features and classy

finishes. Straight up, it’s a
jaw-dropper, and definitely
one that will make you stop
in your tracks for a look.
The Canyon 376 has a
typical centre console layout
of open bow and stern decks
with a console mounted
near the centre of the hull,
but in this case there is quite
obviously a fair difference in
the size, layout and finish.
The Canyon 376 is packed
with innovative features
around the stern but still has
a large deck area for fishing.
Moving forward, the console
and seating configuration is
a whole different dimension.
The seating layout not
only seats three within the
console, screen and hardtop,
but also has a rear section
open to the stern with inbuilt
electric grill, livewell and
plumbed sink – basically, take
a fish out of the well, clean it
and chuck on the grill!
Behind the wheel, the
captain gets the centre seat
and a dash setup to die for.

Other innovative features
include a side door that
leads down into a full cabin
fitted out with head, shower,
kitchenette, queen bed,
air-con, and more. It’s very
spacious with full headroom
and definitely an area that
can be used to sleep in.
The bow is another
super comfortable area,
with wraparound seating,
insulated fishboxes, high
bolstered backrests off the
raised gunwales and bow,
optional centre table, and
even a cast deck insert.
These boats are specifically
designed around high-
performance and five
minutes of full throttle will
get the adrenalin going and
have you acting like you are
hooning on a 6m trailerboat –
not surprising, as twin 350hp
YamahaV8 four-strokes
are the driving force on the
transom. It can handle aWOT
speed of 40kts easily. I really
could not fault the ride in any
way – bloody amazing.

And all this can only take
you in one direction – and
that’s out to the shelf – at a
fast rate. If fuel is not an issue
you will be there fishing way
before anyone else.
Yes, it carries a fair price
tag, but for those with
a bit of cash to spare, it
couldactually be the ideal
upgrade, or the perfect
step back for those tired
of the maintenance and
expense found on the larger
motoryachts. And the family
will dig it. Right?
