weekend I’m sailing yachts. So the plan
is just to get out and sail.”
2012 Olympic gold medallist and key member of Oracle Team USA in
the America’s Cup, Tom Slingsby, doesn’t seem to have lost any

First ever GC32 Worlds
With the GC32 ocially receiving World Sailing recognition last
month, the GC32 International Class Association has
announced that they will be holding their first ever World
Championship in May 2018 at Riva del Garda, Italy.
The regatta is scheduled to see fleets from the GC32 Racing
Tour and the Extreme Sailing Series competing on the same
race track, and should prove quite a spectacle.
GC32 International Class Association president (and owner/
driver on the Tour circuit) Simon Delzoppo commented: “On
behalf of the GC32 International Class Association I would like
to thank World Sailing for making the GC32 a recognised class.
“The World Championship will be the pinnacle event in the
GC32 season. It is a great endorsement for the class and will
help attract a record number of foiling catamarans to compete

One of the UK’s most popular winter races, the Bloody Mary
has been cancelled due to a lack of water in the Queen Mary
Reservoir, west of London.
The low water levels are the result of low rainfall over the
year and resultant lack of flow in the River Thames. Rainfall in
October and November has been, respectively, 30 per cent
and 45 per cent of monthly averages. This unusually small
amount of rainfall has not only aected the Bloody Mary and it
is feared that some other winter events could also be aected.
The organisers of the Bloody Mary have explained they do not
think it would be possible to get the 200 boats which usually
enter the event into and out of the water safely.
Happily, King George Sailing Club in North London is to host
a replacement event on 6 January 2018 which will now form a
part of the GJW Direct Sailjuice Winter Series.Gabart’s max speed
