The Yachting Year 2018

86 | THE YACHTING YEAR 2018

Could there have been a bigger comeback kid in the history of sailing? The 1930 S&S
yawl that established the name of her designer Olin Stephens has won more ocean
races than any other yacht in history: the Transatlantic Race (1931), Newport-Bermuda
(1932), Fastnet (1931 and 1933) and Transpac (1936) are among early highlights. After
she was restored in 2011 by LMI in Rhode Island, owners Matt Brooks and Pam Rorke
Levy put her back on the circuit with a serious racing programme. And guess what? In
2013, she won the Transpac again, 77 years after her original triumph. SHARON GREEN
