450 Nautical Miles
MAXIMUM CRUISING RANGE AT 23 KNOTS
Little Sis
The same day I tested the
93 off Atlantic City, New
Jersey, I also got aboard the
Viking 44 Open, a versatile
express that Viking builds
at its Mullica, New Jersey,
facility for boats less than
52 feet long. The smaller
boat went out in the same
sloppy conditions as the 93
and handled well, with an
impeccably dry ride.
Boss Says So
Pat Healey, Viking ’s presi-
dent, began our sea trial of
the 93 with confidence,
saying, “I’m proud of this
boat’s performance. You’re
going to go out today and
see a top-end near 27
knots. But if you take her
down to 10 knots, with stan-
dard fuel, you can cruise
almost all the way from
Atlantic City to Miami.”
Resin d’Etre
Viking resin-infuses all of
its hulls, mainly for weight
and strength consid-
erations. All resins are
tested in-house to ensure
a high-quality chemical
makeup. The first two
layers on the 93’s hull are
polyester resin, while the
rest are vinylester. The
result is a hull that runs
smoothly and sturdily.
The 93’s helm is kitted out with electronics from Atlantic Marine Electronics, a Viking subsidiary, which helps make her ready to cruise upon delivery.
