Imray Navigator App

From the publisher of the well-established
Imray paper charts comes the new Imray
Navigator app. Using the same chart data,
only in raster digital format, the app’s
operating system is straightforward and
intuitive. It can either use a tablet or
smartphone’s GPS/location services or
import GPS data from an external source
via Bluetooth or TCP/IP.
If you also purchase the Boat Instruments
app (£6.99) it allows the Navigator to use
wireless NMEA data, including AIS, to bring
up a series of easy-to-read instrument
displays, although you will also need a
wireless NMEA server like Digital Yacht’s
WLN10 (£149) connected to your boat’s
instrument system.
At the bottom of the screen are fi ve
function icons:
QSettings – brings up a menu of simple
on or off choices, including chart detail,
positions, destinations, waypoints and
routes, range and bearings, and other
common preferences.
QMove To – allows you to move the
cursor to your own vessel or a waypoint.
Q Charts – brings up a chart portfolio that

editing. Tapping a tidal
diamond brings up a tidal

Wind and temp
Skywatch created the Windoo anemometer
device – the tiny cylinder that you plug into
the top of an iPhone. It has now brought out
a more serious looking pair of wind and
weather devices (still both handheld). Eole
(wind) and Meteos (wind and temperature)
anemometers have a 54mm horizontal
impeller to measure the wind from any
direction. These waterproof devices
fl oat and require 2x AA batteries. The
Meteos (pictured) displays instant,
maximum and average windspeeds
and temperatures with a really useful
wind chill calculator as well. The Eole
offers windspeed only. Price: from £50.99.
