choice which is good for them due to
safety and security reasons.
Giving a tax holiday to old-age
living could provide huge impetus
for this industry. Norms are same
with the real estate industry which
is not good for us. There is an ab-
sence of level playing field for us.
Old-age Homes & Smart Cities
In smart cities concept, government
should dedicate plots for specially
senior living, like they do away with
EWS. In the proposed smart cities,
there should have the facilities to
manage the lifestyle of senior citi-
zens. Today, our cities are not disa-
bled friendly and any smart city
should have these facilities to man-
age specially-abled citizens.
The developers with the help of
governments have to develop day-
care centres for senior population so
that they could be taken care of
properly.
Home-care is also prevalent in
abroad, which can be a better op-
tion to manage elderly people,
where services are provided at
homes. Government should think
of doing something for day-care
centres to give a dignified life to the
destitute. None of our transport sys-
tem is senior friendly. These are the
few basics a government should do
while implementing the smart cities
projects.
Government should start inte-
grated panic monitoring mecha-
nism which helps in accessing the
situation of the elderly at a click of a
button. Just giving access card is not
smart cities; it should be liveable,
convenient and must be able to ca-
ter all. We are completely messing it
up with smart cities. It should al-
ways have a scope for expansion as
the population keeps growing.<
