“The Past is Prologue” Reverberation dates from 1978. I had been painting for nearly three
years then. It was hung in the fi rst show I entered at the national level, at the Foothills Art Center in
Golden, Colorado, as part of the Rocky Mountain Watermedia National Exhibition, and it received a
review in the local newspaper. I was searching for a way to paint landscapes in my own voice. Chatter
(on the right) was painted this year. Chatter refl ects our “new normal”—a life bombarded by too
