Conclusion
TheZephyrusG doeshavecompromises,butthereare
plentyofpositivestobefoundinthis£999laptop.TheGTX
1660 Tihandlesmainstream1080pgamingfine,andthat’s
enough for most people at this price. The AMD processor is
fine for everyday use, and the Asus has a smart design that’s
relatively slim and light.
There are inevitable issues though; the CPU performance
isn’t blazing, the keyboard is shallow and the screen is poor.
The GTX 1660 Ti has no ray-tracing hardware either, giving it
less futureproofing headroom than RTX GPUs. You can’t
expect everything at this price, though, and if you want a
solid laptop for 1080p gaming without spending the earth,
the Zephyrus G is a solid contender.

VERDICT
It’s far from perfect, but this laptop delivers solid
1080p gaming for an affordable price.

The AMD processor has limits too. It’s fast enough for
mostpeople’sneeds,butit can’tcompetewithchipssuch
asIntel’s popular Core i7-8750H. It was more than 10,000
points behind the Intel chip in our single-threaded image
editing benchmark, and it was significantly behind in our
heavilymulti-threadedHandbrakebenchmarktoo.You
can’texpect top-end CPU performance for under a grand
though. The AMD chip isn’t super-fast but it does the job.
Meanwhile, the screen’s 1080p resolution is well
matched with the GPU, and its contrast ratio of 1,074:1
enables bright, punchy colours and plenty of depth at the
bottom end of the scale – an important aspect of any
gaming screen. However, its colour reproduction is poor. Its
delta E of 4.65 is mediocre, and the panel only rendered 57.5
per cent of the sRGB colour gamut, giving it a limited range
of shades. Games won’t look their best on this screen – but
this 1080p panel is still usable.
