NEW BOATS

Cornish Shrimper 21
The Shrimper 21 offers additional space
and refinement over its smaller sister, the
Shrimper 19, even though she’s only
some 320kg heavier. Because of this she
remains light enough to tow behind a
large saloon and is manageable enough
to rig, launch and recover single-handed.
Her long, ballasted shoal keel offers
good stability, while the pivoting
centreplate helps her point and reduces
leeway. When retracted, a draught of just
0.35m/1ft 10in is perfect for creek-
crawling. She also takes the ground
safely, making her very suitable for a
drying mooring.
The rig is optimised for short-handed
launching and incorporates a pivoting

bowsprit that is used to assist with mast
stepping. The gooseneck attaches to the
tabernacle, remaining in place even when
the mast is lowered, and simple track-and-
strap mainsail attachments speed up
launch preparation.
Her hull is hand-laid solid GRP with an
integral centreplate case. An internal
moulding provides the bunk, settees and
galley, while the bulkheads are bonded in
for additional strength. Below the waterline
she is noticeably different to the S19. A
more upright stern and wider beam
lengthen her waterline and create more
interior space. Manoeuvrability has been
improved by cutting the keel away aft,
deepening the centreplate and adding
balance to her rudder to lighten the helm.
Above deck she has a longer, wider
coachroof and a more pronounced sheer,

while retaining a decently sized, self-
draining cockpit with high coamings and
generous stowage.
Below, the accommodation comprises a
full-size vee-berth and two 1.90m/6ft
3in-long saloon settee berths that extend
under the cockpit. A sea toilet under the
forward berth is optional. There’s also a
reasonable galley with a gas hob, sink
and hand-pumped water.
For motoring you can choose between a
6-8hp long-shaft outboard in a well, or a
9hp shaft-drive Yanmar diesel inboard.
The latter is rare in such a small craft and
adds to the tow load.
Another version, the Adventure 21, is
identical, but with an aluminium
Bermudan sloop rig.
