They call California the Golden State and
for more than 100 years Sun-Maid has been
exporting its little red boxes full of goodness
around the world. In the UK, these 100% natural
raisins, with no added salt or sugar, have been a
constant favourite since the 1920s.
Healthy, portable and pocket-sized, Sun-Maid
Raisins are perfect as a playtime snack, a handy
lunchtime treat or as an essential ingredient in
home-baking and tempting recipes of all sorts.

Sun-Dried Natural Magic
Sun-Maid Growers of California is a co-operative
of family farmers, and its members really care
about the quality of their fruit and how it is grown
in the sun-baked vineyards of the San Joaquin
Valley. Sun-Maid’s pure ingredients are Californian

seedless grapes and the natural potency of the
West Coast’s sun and soil work their magic to
grow and sweeten the fruit on the vines until their
harvest in August. Once picked, the sweet, juicy
grapes bask for two to three weeks beneath the hot
September sun until their natural fructose sugars
caramelise, turning them into the plump, dark
raisins with the shot of Californian sweetness for
which this much-loved brand is world-famous.
The simple process ends when the fruit is
washed, sorted and packed in Sun-Maid’s
distinctive red packaging. That’s really all it takes
to create a low-fat, long-lasting and easy-to-carry
super-snack.
Raisins are also a great source of natural energy
and a versatile ingredient that brings flavour to both
sweet and savoury dishes.

Icon of Quality
Sun-Maid Raisins are packed with 100%
natural goodness and they have no added oils or
preservatives. A typical serving of 30g (or one
heaped tablespoon) provides one portion of the
recommended Five A Day, for the sugars in raisins
are defined by the World Health Organisation as
‘intrinsic sugars’, naturally present in whole foods
like fruit and vegetables. But as if that weren’t
healthy enough, nutritious Sun-Maid Raisins are
also a gluten-free source of potassium, copper,
manganese and Vitamin B6– that’s the pure power
of grapes and sunshine!
Since the brand was launched, Sun-Maid’s vivid
red packaging, featuring the Sun-Maid Girl wearing
her red sun bonnet and holding a tray of fresh
grapes, has proved irresistible to both children and
adults. The original Sun-Maid Girl, Lorraine Collett
Peterson, was spotted in Fresno, California, in 1915
and although the packaging has been updated over
the years, this trusted brand has stayed true both
to that iconic image and those original, wholesome
family values, which it first brought to the UK nearly
a century ago.
